01
Information only
The content on Chop Nook is for general information and education. It is not professional, safety, legal or medical advice. Your kitchen, your tools and your skills are unique, so use your own judgment and follow the maker’s instructions.
02
Research-based content, not hands-on testing
Every guide on Chop Nook is based on research: manufacturer specifications, published documentation, steel and hardness data, and verified owner reviews. We do not run lab tests, and we do not claim to have personally used every product we cover.
Rankings and labels such as “Best Value” or “Most Versatile” are our honest judgment of that research. They are not lab results.
03
Knife and blade safety
Knives, cleavers, mandolines, choppers and sharpeners can cause serious injury. A few habits prevent most accidents:
- Keep your guiding fingers curled into a “claw” and cut away from your body.
- Wear a cut-resistant glove with mandolines and while you learn to sharpen.
- Store blades in a block, on a magnetic strip or in a guard, never loose in a drawer.
- Never try to catch a falling knife. Step back and let it drop.
- Keep knives and sharpeners out of reach of children.
You use any technique or product described here at your own risk.
04
Food safety
Our advice on cleaning and oiling cutting boards is general. For food safety, follow official guidance, such as the USDA’s advice to keep one board for fresh produce and bread and a separate board for raw meat, poultry and seafood. Use only food-safe finishes, such as food-grade mineral oil, on boards.
05
Hunting and field knives
Our guides to skinning and field-dressing knives are meant for legal hunting only. Hunting seasons, licenses and rules differ by state and country. Knife laws also differ, including limits on blade length, fixed blades and carrying in public. Check your local laws before you buy, carry or use any knife.
06
Accuracy
We work hard to keep facts correct and current, but makers change products, specs and prices without notice. We cannot promise every detail is complete or up to date. If you spot an error, email hello@chopnook.com and we will check it and fix it.
