Privacy Policy
This page explains what information Chop Nook collects when you visit, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain, because you should not need a lawyer to understand your own privacy.

Plain-English summary
- We do not sell your personal information. Not to brands, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We collect very little: basic visit data through Google Analytics, and whatever you choose to send us by email.
- Product links go to Amazon. Anything you buy there is handled under Amazon’s own privacy notice.
- You can block analytics cookies at any time, and you can ask us to see or delete your data.
01
Who we are
Chop Nook (https://chopnook.com) is an independent website that publishes research-based guides about kitchen knives, cutting boards, knife sharpening and knife care. When this policy says “we”, “us” or “our”, it means Chop Nook. Questions about privacy go to hello@chopnook.com.
02
Information we collect
We collect two kinds of information, and only what we need.
- Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write in the message.
- Information collected automatically. When you visit, our analytics tool and our servers record basic technical details: browser type, device type, screen size, pages viewed, time on page, the page that sent you here, and an approximate location (country or city) worked out from your IP address.
We never ask for payment details, your home address or your phone number, and you never need an account to read Chop Nook.
03
How we use it
- To answer your emails and fix errors you report.
- To see which guides help people and which ones need more work.
- To keep the site fast, secure and free of spam and bot attacks.
- To meet legal duties, such as keeping records needed for tax or affiliate reporting.
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
04
Third-party services
We use a small number of trusted services. Each one follows its own privacy policy.
| Service | What it does | What it may collect |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics (through Site Kit by Google) | Counts visits and shows which guides people read | Pages viewed, device and browser data, approximate location, cookie IDs |
| Amazon Associates | Our main affiliate program for product links | After you click an Amazon link, Amazon may set cookies on its own site to credit the referral |
| Cloudflare | Protects the site from attacks and speeds up delivery | IP address, browser data and short-lived security cookies |
| Our web host | Stores and serves the website | Server logs with IP address and request details, kept briefly for security |
You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
05
Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. We use them only for analytics and security. Our Cookie Policy lists every cookie and explains how to turn them off.
06
How long we keep information
- Emails: up to 24 months, then deleted, unless an open conversation still needs them.
- Google Analytics: event-level data is kept for no longer than 14 months, the longest period Google offers standard accounts.
- Server and security logs: kept for a short period and then overwritten automatically.
07
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct it or delete it.
- Ask us to stop using it for analytics.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Europe and the UK. The GDPR and UK GDPR give you these rights by law, plus the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Our legal basis for analytics is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used. For emails, it is your own request.
California and other US states. Laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA) give you the right to know, delete and correct your information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will never treat you differently for using your rights.
To make any request, email hello@chopnook.com. We reply within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
08
Children
Chop Nook is written for adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Knives are sharp tools, and buying them usually requires an adult. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
09
Security
Every page on Chop Nook loads over HTTPS. We keep our software updated, use a security firewall and limit who can access site data. No website can promise perfect security, but we protect the little information we hold with care.
10
International visitors
Our service providers may store and process data in the United States and other countries. When data crosses borders, we rely on the safeguards those providers use, such as standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
11
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our tools or the law change. The date at the top always shows the current version. If we make a big change, we will say so clearly on this page.
